Chronology

1937           Laois VEC opened 2 rural Vocational schools, 1 in Arles 
                   and the other in Clonaslee.
                   The 1st class consisted of 20 boys and 21 girls, a staff of 3 with Mr. Brickley as Principal.
                   Group Certificate was taken after 2 years.

1940          A glass house was built – 20 ft. x 10ft. – the first extension.

1967          Intermediate Certificate was introduced along with free 
                  transport. Prefabricated classrooms were erected to cater for 
                  the increased numbers.

1982          An Outdoor Education Centre was built.

1985         The Parents association was formed.

1988 Sanction for Leaving Certificate was received with the first candidates being constantly reminded by the  community to “Do well or we might lose the sanction”!

1987-1989 Clonaslee Community Development Association purchased 16 acres to provide an indoor sports complex, playing pitches and ultimately the site for the new school.

1991 4 classrooms were built in a joint venture between the school, Laois VEC, Clonaslee Community Development Association and the Parents Association.

1994  Transition Year was introduced which extended the school programme to a 6 year cycle. Sanction for a new school was given.

2000 Students sat the Christmas exams in the New School in December 2000.
