In the spring of 2008, we set off with our English friends, Keith and Jane Railton from Coventry, to sample the delights of the River Shannon, which flows right down the centre of Ireland.

The Ashford Castle is a big cruiser - 38 feet long and 13 feet wide. Luckily we were blessed with unusually good weather. Only on a couple of days was it windy enough to give us a few problems - of which more later.
