Tommy Docherty

Tommy Docherty is renowned as one of the most colourful characters in football-the man who claims to have had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus! He has seen the world in a distinguished career with 12 clubs in four different countries and wherever The Doc has gone, his sharp sense of humour has helped him through good times and bad. As a player his career began with Celtic, made 324 appearances for Preston and then moved further south with Arsenal and Chelsea. He also won 25 caps for Scotland and when Tom's playing days were over,he turned to management. He lent his experience to a long lists of clubs-Chelsea,Rotherham,Aston Villa,Oporto,Manchester United,Derby,Queens Park Rangers(3 times),Sydney Olympic(twice),Preston and Wolves with various degrees of success. It was under his guidance that Scotland also qualified for the 1974 World Cup Finals but his most memorable success came at Old Trafford, where he created an exciting team which took Manchester United to the second-division championship in 1975 and F.A. Cup glory two years later. Since retiring from management, the Doc has always kept in close touch with the football world, while establishing himself as a top after dinner speaker.
