Tailspin Eircom Stockprice Dives On Share Dump News 1900 Hrs 24 May 2000
It began with an exclusive in the Irish Sunday Independent newspaper - KPN - Teliaīs 35% holding in Eircom was to be sold off. The announcement was expected on Wednesday when Eircom would announce results. The markets over the last few days have been concentrating on this sell-off. When Eircomīs results were published today, the profit was up 17% on last yearīs profit but this profit was absorbed by the exceptional costs such as getting rid of 3500 employees. Full Story

An article in yesterday's Irish Times about how Telecom Eireann was going to introduce ADSL bore all the hallmarks of a Telecom Eireann smokescreen. The last time that TE had been promoted in such a way was just before it was annouced that the Flat Rate internet access the TE was promoting so loudly was not given the go-ahead by the ODTR. Telecoms NTL Buys Cablelink For £535M 0930 Hrs 07 May 1999
NTL purchased the Irish company Cablelink last night in a deal worth £535 Million. Cablelink is Ireland's biggest cable and MMDS operator with an estimated 400,000 subscriber base. Cablelink had been owned by Telecom Eireann and RTE. According to Sean MacCarthaigh in the Irish Times, RTE will use the revenue generated by the sale of its shares to fund digital terrestrial televison project. Full Story |
