PRIMARY SCHOOL MANAGEMENT

This course is designed to meet the professional needs of Principals appointed to their role in the last seven years.The course may also be of interest to some Deputy Principals or to teachers in acting up positions.The facilitators,Mr. Ciaran McMahon and Mr. Ciaran Sheehan have Masters Degrees in Educational Management and come highly recommended having facilitated similar courses in other parts of the country.Ciaran McMahon is an Administrative Principal in an urban, single sex 16 teacher school.The school caters for mainstream, mild learning disability and traveller children.

Ciaran Sheehan is a Teaching Principal in a five teacher, co-educational rural school.

The course consists of eight practical sessions.Each session will deal with a separate module and will include:-

Evaluation of the Role of Principal

2.Educational Leadership

Leadership task

3.Managing Change

Case Study of Innovation and Change

4.Boards of Management – An Overview

(Historical Perspective; Appointment Procedures; Rules of B.O.M. etc.)

5.Middle Management Structures in Schools

6.The Education Act/Education Welfare Act
