Introduction
This initial sample of links is a demonstration of what Political
Spark will become in the not too distant future. By then, I will
have vetted all the links provided, and inserted a terse but informative
comment for each. In the meantime please bear with a somewhat
less than satisfactory listing. I will be slaving away over a
hot key(surf)board throughout 1996, to create a useful resource
for political activists.
I intend that, apart altogether from links to other sites of one
kind or another (but mainly political), I will be able to provide
direct links to published articles on a wide variety of topics.
However, my ability to do this on my own is limited by the fact
that the only journal which I read regularly, and which is also
available on the internet, is the daily Irish Times.
Nevertheless, I will try to keep track of future relevant articles
of a high standard in that newspaper and provide links to them.
But even this limited objective has encountered short-term difficulties.
First, the Irish times does not yet publish a full text edition
on the net, thus ruling out many articles. Second, the newspaper
is preparing a full text version going back to 1992, which will
be placed on the net during 1996, but in the meantime it appears
that not all of the limited net edition, which had been provided
heretofore, is now available.
It would be much better if I could provide links to useful articles
in all sorts of other net publications. This is where the assistance
of other users of this page would be most useful, and I would
be grateful for information on any such links. An email
note to me, including the link and a snappy comment on it, would
fill the bill nicely. In return (if desired) I will acknowledge
the sender by name, and provide an email link to them, or even
a hyperlink if they have a relevant page of their own.
The categories you will find below are in a state of flux also.
They were devised on a somewhat ad hoc basis as I discovered new
links. I am aware of several shortcomings in them, and this state
of affairs will be kept under review also, with a view to putting it right.
Furthermore, I am keen to keep a distinctly Irish flavour in these
pages, notwithststanding their international scope. I want Spark
to be useful to Irish political activists in particular, because
as a small country, lacking the weight of such bigger English
speaking countries such as the UK or USA, we have to work harder
to provide our own resources in the social arena.
Finally, the introductory section
of the Spark Homepage is also relevant to an understanding of
the objectives underlying the content and design of these pages.

Feminism
- Femina Electronic magazine covering women's activity in business, computers, culture, education, the family, feminism, politics, etc.
- Feminist.com An interesting site with extensive links to other feminist resources. Check out the links to be found here to men's organisations which are supportive of feminism. I have'nt yet got a chance to look at them, but when I do, I will place some of them on this page.
- Feminist Activist Resources Connecting feminist activists to resources on the net.
- The Feminist Majority Foundation The Feminist Majority was founded in 1987 by Ellie Smeal. It is an organisation of concerned women and men who believe that America's women - 52% of the population - need to be recognized as a feminist majority in order to move more rapidly toward full equality. The site contains resources in and links to women's health, work, sports, books, and media.
- First pointers to a Women's Guide to the Internet A very interesting page of pointers to women's resources, this is run by Michele Evard at MIT. I have'nt yet checked any of them out, but I can hardly wait. There are links covering such topics as: Women in Science & Engineering, Women in Computers, Women in Engineering, Women of NASA, Women at Work, Female Genital Mutilation, Feminists and Animal rights, and much more.
- Get Political Hollywood Women's Political Committee. A resource page for feminists and those opposed to the Republican Party.

Advice and links. Excellent site. Good fast graphics.
- The National Organization for Women (USA) Keeps timing out.
- Women's Issues Interesting links to feminist, lesbian, literary, artistic, scientific, computing, and jewish resources. Provided by Staci Schoenfeld, these pages are clear in their focus on women, and strong in both presentation and content.
- Women's Issues and Resources Provided by Netlink, this is a comprehensive list of links to women's resources.
- Women's Resources on the Internet Empowering women with technology. Slow graphics. Good links.

Marxism
- Chegitz Guevara's Socialist Regroupment Pages (Ignore the name: it has nothing to do with what it looks like). The expressed purpose of these pages is to lead to a regroupment of the socialist movements. Texts on the question of a revolutionary party, and links.
- The Che Guevara Page Biography and some writings of the man, plus links to other Che and Cuban resources.
- Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Lenninist) Information, documents, links. In English and French.
- Fidel Castro Page 'This page is dedicated to vindicating Fidel Castro, one of the world's brilliant and misunderstood political leaders'. It contains some material on the man, plus a link to a gopher site containing a complete archive of his speeches from 1959 to 1994!
- Communist Party of the USA Information, links, on-line texts. A well presented site.
- Karl Marx Museum In German, from Trier. There is very little on this site.
- Living Marxism Online (UK) This is the magazine of the Revolutionary Communist Party. It attempts to develop political debate in the post cold war era. A well presented site, it provides information, search facilities, links, discussions, and both current and back issues of the magazine. Irish affairs are given good coverage.
- The Marxism List The Marxism list has been conceived as a place to explore the field of textual and political production generated by the work of Karl Marx (and Friedrich Engels). The list is intended to be a forum for open engagement with, and enquiry into, all aspects of all Marxist traditions, from Althusser to Zizek, one might say. Primarily academic, it does not in any way prevent contributions from activists or others outside the formal educational system. It is hoped that this will be an interdisciplinary engagement, bringing together historians, economists, sociologists, artists, literary critics, philosophers and so on. The list proper is an e-mail discussion group, but this page contains links to papers by contemporary marxist scholars and to archives of the discussion group.
- Marx/Engels Internet Archive This is the definitive page for students of Marx and Engels. The collection of texts online is very comprehensive and by all accounts soon will be fully so. The presentation and graphics are of a very high standard. The site provides a chronology of the writings, and biographical material, not only on Marx and Engels, but also on several others such as Bebel, Fuerbach, Lenin, Trotsky, etc. It has a photo gallery. It has an engine to search the texts: I gave it 'Ireland', and in a few seconds got back116 references from 29 files. It even has a few online texts by De Leon, Lenin, Luxembourg, and Trotsky. A visit will be a delight, and a bookmark will be essential.
- Marxism Page
Maintained by the International Socialists/Socialist Workers'
Party (USA). Contains online texts of many works by Marx, Engels,
Lenin, and Trotsky, plus some current writings by Trotskysts of
today.
- New Socialist This is an on-line version of a new Canadian magazine called 'New Socialist'. It espouses a revolutionary socialist view, in a critical Leninist/Trotskyist tradition. It also has good links to other socialist resources, especially relating to Canada.
- Regards Net Journal of the French Communist Party. In French. See also 'L'Internet vu par Regards' on this site for many links to French marxist (and not just French or marxist) resources. 'Les "promenades" virtuelles entre ces sites tourent vite à la partie de ping-pong. On erre de Web en Web , de clic en clic; un promenade sans rêverie, sans autre fin qu'elle même. Ici nous essayerons de proposer les addresses de quelques sites, non-commerciaux représentant un réel interêt.'
- South African Communist Party A gopher site with many useful documents, including the Party's policy statement adopted at its 1995 congress.

Left of Centre Politics
- Adam Rifkin's Activisim Links Page An interesting page of links for activists, though the topics might be better organised. Activism is not defined, and no clear concept of it is apparent. The topics covered include: activism, freedom, rights, subversive knowledge, US government, newsgroups, texts of historic documents, international organisations. See also Lead ... or Leave another similar page run by Adam Rifkin, but which, unfortunately, is not being updated.
- Anti-imperialism in the United States: 1898 - 1935 This page is devoted to the introduction of the organisations and individuals who wrote and spoke against US imperialism in the first third of this century. The site contains a large collection of anti-imperialist literature from these years. It is a stupendous resource for progressive people involved in the current debates on the role of the US in the world today. Don't miss it.
- Brian's Progressive Pages Resources for progressive activists. Links to progressive and labour resources, with several informative critiques of right-wing positions and organisations. This is run by Brian Wright who is clearly interested in Sinn Féin (take a look at the URL) but I have'nt yet figured out the link. Check out also Brian's other page.
- Communications for a Sustainable
Future Hosts the Progressive Sociology Network, and groups concerned
with the environment, feminism and foreign policy. Also the site for the
Post Keynesian Thought archive.
- Electronic Democracy Information
Network '... dedicated to expanding the voice of community organizations on the
Information Superhighway'. An impressive set of resources and links to other progressive
sites, organised by issues, and including the economy, defence, labour, race, gender, environment, housing, civil liberties, politics, art, and culture.
- European Counter Network
From Italy, 'a non-profit network dedicated first and foremost to broadening political debate
and providing counter-information, the ECN has file and conference areas devoted to
a number of important social themes, including gender politics, AIDS, drugs, current struggles,
the centri sociali and workplace politics'. Highly recommended.
- Green Left Weekly A weekly paper from Australia which aims to be a 'proudly independent voice committed to human and civil rights, global peace and environmental sustainability, democracy and equality. By printing the news and ideas the mainstream media won't, Green Left Weekly exposes the lies and distortions of the power brokers and helps us to better understand the world around us. The paper brings together in its content, distribution and readership a broad range of progressive activists and organisations. It is now Australia's leading alternative newspaper, providing local, national and international news, analysis and discussion on a wide range of issues'.
- Left Business Observer This is a monthly newsletter on economics and politics in the U.S. and the world at large. The site contains some articles from back issues. This looks to be worth checking out.
- Left of Centre A site with excellent links to liberal or left resources on the net, including: Environment, Labour, Feminism, Anti-racism, Censorship, Conspiracy Theories, Charities, Democratic Party Support, Right-wing Hates, US President's Achievements, International Liberalism, Abortion, and Euthanasia.
- Turn Left The Home of Liberalism on the Web. Excellent links to liberal (understood in the American sense) resources. Its list of 'Insanity' sites is a must. Insanity refers to right wing sites which are so far out as to make you cry, which refer to any amount of government greater than anarchy as socialism, and which lean heavily towards paranoia and conspiracy theory.
- Z Net Z is an independent political magazine of critical thinking on political, cultural, social, and economic life in the United States. It sees the racial, sexual, political, and class dimensions of personal life as fundamental to understanding and improving contemporary circumstances, and it aims to assist activist efforts to attain a better future. It also contains the Noam Choamsky Archive, a public collection of files (articles, interviews, lectures, reviews, etc.) by and about Noam Chomsky. (At the moment it only contains 'political' material; the science half of his work is not represented in the Archive).

Extreme Right Wing Politics
- Christian Coalition (USA) Magazine, Christian Coalition issues, events, speeches. Scorecard for congressmen (sic), showing relative support for Christian Coalition.
- Heritage Foundation (USA) Links to other conservative organisations, magazine, publications, articles, research.
- National Rifle Association (USA)
- The Pro-Life Encyclopedia Take a look at the chilling dark side of the far right. Abortion, infantiside, euthanasia, homosexual rights, feminism, witchcraft, pornography, atheism, and communism, are all treated as one huge conspiracy, concocted and motivated by Satan, to subvert the world.
- Right to Bear and Keep Arms
- Stormfront I can only quote 'Turn Left' to give you an insight into the content of this hate-filled site: '...the single most sick and demented thing on the Web ... This is the closest thing to pure evil that exists on our Earth. Are sites like this the price we pay for a free society? When glancing at this site, one may feel a hate towards these people as they feel towards you. If you give in to that hate, they have won'.
- United We Stand America Several attempts to reach this site have timed out. It may now be inoperative.
