Gabrielle, played by Renee O'Connor, comes from a small village that Xena saved from destruction by the forces of Draco. In fact, this was the first village that Xena had rescued after her departure from her evil past. Gabrielle saw a chance to live an adventureous life in the company of this Warrior Princess and seized the chance. She pushed her friendship upon Xena but the two soon became good friends . Xena sees the good in Gabrielle and if her life had been different she might have turned out similar, but thankfully for us this was not the case. Gabrielle represents the good in all of us and she has the amazing ability to talk her way out of the most akward situations.

In one episode Gabrielle tries to save an Amazon Warrior being killed but is unsuccessful. Before dying the warrior bequeths her birthright to Gabrielle for her act of kindness to a complete stranger. Gabrielle soon learns that the dead warrior was a princess and she has now inherited this title and is taught by the Amazons how to fight, should the need arise. She is now Gabrielle - Amazon Princess.

Gabrielle is a faithful friend to Xena and is a storyteller extraordinaire. She has had many adventures with Xena and when offered the chance to go to an elite school for storytellers she refuses the chance to stay with Xena, "why would she want to tell stories of adventures when she could be living them".
