David Skuse and the Genetics of Gender, Behaviour, Sociality and Autism

Back in 1997 the publication of this paper relating Genetics to Autism was senn as surely set to reinvigorate research in this area. Later work by Monaco and Vargha-Khadem on SPCH1 or FOXP2 from 1998 onwards will be of more immediate interest.

Professor David Skuse and his team at the Behavioural Sciences Unit of the Institute of Child Heath in London, UK have had a important new paper:

published in the well-respected scientific journal Nature, along with a related paper:

These caught the eye of the Reuter's Press Agency which published reports:

These fired up the newspapers and, as you can see from the reports below, the story just rolled round the world. The prominence given to Autism by these reports is already of value to the Autism Community, but the impetus to Autism research may be more valuable still.

To follow up, we asked Professor Skuse for his vision of where this might take Autism research.
